A MAN has been charged with murder after a "devoted" gran was discovered dead in her home in Blackpool.

Marlene McCabe, 71, suffered "serious head and facial injuries" during the horror on Wednesday.

She was declared dead at the scene and a 25-year-old man was arrested.

Conor Clarkson, of Blackpool, has now been charged with murder and will appear at Preston Magistrates’ Court this morning.

A spokesperson for Lancashire Police said: "Police were called around 6pm on Wednesday (September 4) to an address on West Park Drive.

"Emergency services attended with the body of a woman found inside the property.

"Marlene McCabe, 71, from Blackpool, had suffered serious head and facial injuries and was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.

"A Home Office post mortem examination has been carried out and a cause of death of head injuries has been given.

Maureen's "devastated" family have previously paid tribute to the grandmother.

They said: "Marlene was a kind, caring mother and devoted Granny who will be greatly missed by the many people whose lives she touched."
