A MAN is fighting for life in hospital following a horror four-vehicle pile-up on the M25 this morning.

Emergency services charged to the scene between junction 23 South Mimms and junction 22 St Albans anti-clockwise at around 6.20am.

According to traffic tracker Inrix, multiple lorries were involved in the collision and a van overturned.

An air ambulance was scrambled and a man was airlifted to St Mary’s Hospital in London where he remains in a critical condition.

Another male was taken to Barnet General Hospital by paramedics.

All emergency services have now left the scene and all lanes have reopened.

National Highways reported tailbacks of over five miles along the stretch of the motorway that runs through Hertfordshire following the horror.

A Hertfordshire Police spokesperson told The Sun: "Police were called at around 6.21am this morning to reports of a collision on the M25 westbound, between junction 23 (South Mimms) and junction 22 (St Albans).

"Four vehicles were involved.

"The fire service and the ambulance service have also been called to the scene.

"Temporary road closures have been put in place, and motorists are asked to avoid the area and seek an alternate route where possible."

An East of England Ambulance Service spokesperson said: "Four ambulances, two ambulance officers, the Hazardous Area Response Team and a response car from the Essex and Herts Air Ambulance were sent to the scene.

"An adult male was transported by road to St Mary’s Hospital in London, with medics from the air ambulance also accompanying to provide advanced critical care, while another adult male was conveyed to Barnet General Hospital."
